Pench Safari Zones & Gates
Important Disclosure: Pench.in is managed by Jungle Safari India, a private travel assistance agency. We are not the official government website or official booking portal of Pench National Park. Safari zones, gates, routes, timings, vehicles and final entry depend on availability, Forest Department rules and local conditions. Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed.
Pench Tiger Reserve extends across Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, and safari tourism is managed separately on the two sides. Madhya Pradesh Forest Department currently identifies Turia, Karmajhiri and Jamtara as its three main tourist zones, while its carrying-capacity information also lists Telia and Rukhad. Maharashtra Pench currently lists eight official safari gates.
Visitors should always confirm the state, gate, safari date and permit availability before planning their trip. Wildlife movement is natural and sightings cannot be guaranteed.
Safari Zone in Pench (Madhya Pradesh)
Turia Zone (CORE):
This is the most famous zone of the wild Pench National Park and is famous because of the sightings of tigers and leopards. In this zone, the most common sightings are of tigers, and because of that, a lot of tourists make their Pench Safari Booking for this zone. This Pench Safari Zone is close to the NH7 and offers good views of big ghost trees along with other animals like chital, jackals, and beautiful birds. When you go for a safari in this zone of the park, visit the viewpoints like Baginnalla waterhole, Pyorthadi, Alikatta, Joda Munara, Junewani waterhole, and Kala Pahad. The highest point of the wild Pench is Kala Pahad, which is in this zone. From there, you can see the whole view of the park, which looks amazing. Another reason for this zone's popularity is that many hotels and resorts are located close to this one, so people can easily come to park without problems.
Book SafariKarmajhiri Zone (CORE):
This is another safari zone in Pench that is visited by most of the tourists. In this zone of the park, sightings of birds, tigers, and wild dogs are common. When you come to the Pench Safari zone, carrying binoculars is necessary because it offers lots of bird sightings. Other than them, lucky tourists see Gaurs, Sambars, and barking deer often. While on a safari adventure in this zone, visit the points like Bodhanalla, Sitaghat, and Alikatta. This zone of pench has lots of teak trees, and before it became a reserve, the trees were used for timber production. There are fewer staying options available in this zone, but they are very good. However, if you want a peaceful stay experience with the sound of the Jungle, then Forest Rest House is available here.
Book SafariJamtara Zone (CORE):
If you’re coming to Pench for sightings of cute animals, then this zone would be perfect for your safari ride. It offers the opportunity to spot sloth bears in their natural habitat. They are the main animals of this zone and are easily seen having Banyan and Shindoori trees. This Pench Safari Zone does not cover a large area like other zones, but you can visit the main points like Chendia Gate, Tikari, and Alikatta. When the river remains dry, then safaris take people to other zones via the Chendia Ghat. When you go for a safari in this zone then you can even go to the breakfast point of Alikatta.
Book SafariKhawasa Zone (BUFFER):
Pench National Park is famous for sightings of tigers, but other than them, if you like to observe animals like wolves, foxes, and nocturnal birds, then coming to this Pench Safari Zone would be perfect for you. The Khawasa zone of Pench is even famous as the wolf sanctuary, and they can be easily spotted here. After a good safari during the day, you can take the night safari to see these animals (it can only be booked offline). This zone is quite close to the Turia zone, so resorts and hotels can be easily reached. It’s a zone that covers a good area, and other animals that can be spotted here include porcupines and owls. You should definitely book a safari in this zone if you’re not coming for just tiger sightings.
Book SafariKhumbhpani Zone (BUFFER):
This is one of the newly opened zones of Pench National Park and is located close to the Khawasa zone. Only 10 gypsies are allowed to enter this zone. People can book a maximum of 5 morning safaris and 5 evening safaris. The most common animals that are seen in the Khumbhpani Zone of the park are tigers, deer, and birds. Other than them, you can spot various birds here when you come for your thrilling safari ride.
Book SafariRukhad Zone (BUFFER):
This safari zone is one of the buffer zones off the park and offers tourists sightings of tigers, deer, and gaurs. In this Pench Safari Zone, one can find Jamun, Bamboo, and Arjun Trees, because of which a lot of butterflies visit this zone of the park. Here, one can enjoy thrilling gypsy safari rides, or you can even enjoy bicycling in this zone of the park with a forest guide. It’s a good zone for those who want to stay in Forest Rest House and enjoy a natural staying experience inside the Pench National Park.
Book SafariMasurnala Zone (BUFFER):
The Masurnala zone is just like the Rukhad zone of Pench and allows the tourists to see animals like gaurs and tigers. In this zone of the park, bamboo trees are commonly zone, so herbivore animals are common here. This is one of the new zones of the park, and it’s the best one during summer for sightings of animals. The area becomes dry, and because of that, it becomes easy to spot animals here.

This is one of the famous buffer zones because it’s located close to the Turia gate. A lot of animals are seen in this buffer zone of the park, like wolves, leopards, barking deer, chousingha, blue bulls, antelopes, etc. Other than them, when you go for a safari in this zone, take care to keep your eyes wide open, as this one is famous for sightings of black panthers, who are also known as Melanistic leopards.
